Lukaku is exasperated by the drama surrounding him and his time at Stamford Bridge. Can he put it to bed in Lille?

Chelsea’s Champions League Round-of-16 match against LOSC Lille could prove vital in determining the legacy of star striker Romelu Lukaku’s stint at Chelsea.

Lukaku, who drew praise in his time with Inter Milan, became the butt of many online jokes following his tumultuous times in and out of Stamford Bridge.

Notably, the Belgian target forward told Sky Italia he was “unhappy” in his time with the Blues, and he would have stayed with Inter if not for contract negotiations going south.

Recently, Lukaku made headlines for touching the ball a total of seven times and making a relatively small impact on the Chelsea-Crystal Palace game.

But Lukaku’s woes could be lessened by a good performance against Lille Tuesday. Lille, who is struggling in the highly-competitive Ligue 1, is expected to be dominated by the reigning UEFA Champions League winners. It could be Lukaku’s time to exploit a weak defense and attempt to win back the hearts of Blues fans across the world.
